ABOUT US

We contribute to the research of the faculties of the unconscious through the study of the works of Freud and Lacan.

Psychoanalysis is concerned with the human condition within the context of contemporary society, searching for answers to the unbearableness of human existence in the subject’s discourse itself and in the analysis of the said discourse.

the activities of the Forum

OBJECTIVE

OBJECTIVE

The Forum of Athens aims to cultivate the psychoanalytic discourse and to bring psychoanalysis closer to socio-political practices, science, philosophy, art and religion. The Forum participates in the transmission and the control of the empirical knowledge emanating from psychoanalytic practice. In collaboration with other Forums worldwide, the Forum of Athens contributes to the elaboration of critical thought and discussion on the theoretical and institutional approaches existing within the analytical movement. The Forum supports the School of Psychoanalysis and is steered by it.

PRINCIPLES

PRINCIPLES

The Forum of Athens is based on the principle of personal initiative, strengthening the subjectivity of its members and encouraging the development of new ideas and critical thinking through presentations, exchange of views and democratic debates. The Forum also supports the principle of solidarity ensuring that, in a group of individuals sharing a common goal, the one's actions have consequences for others, inviting everyone to take responsibility.

ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES

Activities are organised according to the annual theme chosen by the School of Psychoanalysis, their goal being the research and development of the fundamental concepts of psychoanalysis. Activities take place in the form of individual and collective seminars, tutorials and round tables, all of which are open to the public. The Forum also organises conference days with guest psychoanalysts from overseas, members of the School of Psychoanalysis, as well as clinical presentations taking place in hospitals. By doing so, we build channels for the close exchange of views both at the clinical and theoretical level, for the benefit of the consolidation of Lacanian psychoanalytic practice.

Charter of the IF-SPFLF

if there is something that remains to be done in analysis, it is to institute this other field of energetics, which would demand other structures than those of physics, and which is the field of jouissance. As from what comes from the field of jouissance-which, sadly, will never be called the Lacanian field, for I will surely not have the time even to sketch out the bases, but I have wanted to-there are some remarks to be made.
